1 Thessalonians 5:18
Paul writes in all circumstances, not for all circumstances. The distinction protects the verse from becoming cruelty. Gratitude does not require calling a loss good; it requires finding God present within it.
Thanksgiving is described here as the will of God — a phrase people usually reserve for career and marriage decisions. Much of God's revealed will turns out to be about character rather than logistics.
Gratitude also rewires attention. What we notice repeatedly becomes what we expect, and what we expect shapes how we pray. A thankful person is not naive; they are simply better at seeing.
